An adventure from Cowaramup to Margaret River
The Wadandi track (also known as Rails to Trails) stretches from Cowaramup to Witchcliffe and passes through the beautiful town of Margaret River. There are numerous bridges crossing a major river and creeks. The trail is relatively flat as it was previously a railway. This railway line was built by the popular timber tycoon, M.C. Davies who needed to take the timber down to the former Hamelin Bay jetty. As you might have noticed the area is full of history!
I hadn’t planned to ride the Rails to Trails Track from Cowaramup to Margaret River section as I had planned to spend the day in the Pines instead, which is a very popular mountain bike park in the outskirt of the town. But opportunities arise and a photography from Hannes Nitzsche that I saw in the Temper Temper chocolate shop inspired me to go and explore the trail. The ride is very easy (13.5 km).
The first part of the trail is very peaceful and the birdlife is abundant. As I got closer to Margaret River, I started seeing a lot of riders going in and out of the Pines as the park is adjacent to the Wadandi track. It was great to see this little area buzzing.
And there here I was a a few metres away from the Peppermint Brook Cottages. If you are staying in Margaret River, I definitely recommend this place! It’s very comfortable and peaceful (if you like birds singing in the morning!).
